Homemade Milk Tea Boba Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups of water
- 4 black tea bag
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugars
- 1 cup of tapioca pearls (Quick cooking ones)
- 7 cups of water
- 10 ml simple syrup
- 40 ml cream base (Coffemate, Vanilla)
- 180 ml black tea (Lipton)
Directions
- To make the tea: Boil 3 cups of water, then add in 4 black tea bags, boil 1-2 minutes, remove the tea bags. Cover and cool in the fridge to chill until needed.
- To make the simple syrup, in a pot carefully combine 1 cup of water, and 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, do not stir and leave it alone, heat till boiled and the sugar is dissolved.
- To cook the tapioca pearls: Boil 7 cups of water with 1 cup of tapioca pearls, covered for 5-7 minutes. (If you don't have the quick cooking ones, it will take a lot longer 25 minutes+) Occasionally stir, so the boba won't stick together. Let it sit 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water and drain. Add in 1/2 cup simple syrup and stir. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- To assemble together the drink: In a measuring cup, combine 10 ml simple syrup, 40 ml cream base 180 ml black tea, and stir together together with a spoon. Add 1/4 cup of tapioca pearls (or to your liking) into a cup you're planning to serve it in, and add in the drink.
Note: If you want more drinks make lots of more tea, I was being cheap and I reused my tea bags with another pot full of water. It was then it was enough for 3 large mason jars.
THOROUGHLY mix your drink to get it well incorporated, if you're using a mason jar, you can cover the drink with a lid, and shake it around till your drink is well blended. You will taste the creamer if you don't mix it enough, and it'll be off.
If boba pearls get hard, to soften it, strain/remove them the drink, place them in a microwavable 20 second intervals, mixing it in between. Taste one to tell if they're soft again. And use them again for your drink.
I recommend storing boba separate from the drink, and just softening or adding the pearls when you're ready to drink it.
