Milk Tea Boba Recipe

  • 3 cups of water
  • 4 black tea bag
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugars
  • 1 cup of tapioca pearls (Quick cooking ones)
  • 7 cups of water
  • 10 ml simple syrup
  • 40 ml cream base (Coffemate, Vanilla)
  • 180 ml black tea (Lipton)

    1. To make the tea: Boil 3 cups of water, then add in 4 black tea bags, boil 1-2 minutes, remove the tea bags. Cover and cool in the fridge to chill until needed.
    2. To make the simple syrup, in a pot carefully combine 1 cup of water, and 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, do not stir and leave it alone, heat till boiled and the sugar is dissolved.
    3. To cook the tapioca pearls: Boil 7 cups of water with 1 cup of tapioca pearls, covered for 5-7 minutes. (If you don't have the quick cooking ones, it will take a lot longer 25 minutes+) Occasionally stir,  so the boba won't stick together. Let it sit 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water and drain. Add in 1/2 cup simple syrup and stir. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
    4. To assemble together the drink: In a measuring cup, combine 10 ml simple syrup, 40 ml cream base 180 ml black tea, and stir together together with a spoon. Add 1/4 cup of tapioca pearls (or to your liking) into a cup you're planning to serve it in, and add in the drink.
Note:  If you want more drinks make lots of more tea, I was being cheap and I reused my tea bags with another pot full of water. It was then it was enough for 3 large mason jars.

THOROUGHLY mix your drink to get it well incorporated, if you're using a mason jar, you can cover the drink with a lid, and shake it around till your drink is well blended. You will taste the creamer if you don't mix it enough, and it'll be off.

If boba pearls get hard, to soften it, strain/remove them the drink, place them in a microwavable 20 second intervals, mixing it in between. Taste one to tell if they're soft again. And use them again for your drink.

I recommend storing boba separate from the drink, and just softening or adding the pearls when you're ready to drink it.

    Step By Step Photos

Step 1: In a pot boil 3 cups of water. Add 4 tea bags, and boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cool down, cover and place in fridge until needed.

Step 2: Boil 7 cups of water. Add one cup of QUICK COOKING tapioca pearls. Stir occasionally and cook for 5-7 minutes. Boba will float to the top. Let it sit for 30 minutes before draining and rinsing with warm water. If you are not using the quick cooking ones it will take a much longer time.

Step 3: Make simple syrup by adding 1 cup of water into a pot, gently adding 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar, heating until the sugar dissolves. Let this cool down.
Step 4: Add pearls into a small bowl, add in 1/2 cup of simple syrup into pearls, and stir. Let it sit 15 minutes.

Step 5: In a measuring cup, combine together, 180 ml black tea, 40 ml cream base, 10 ml simple syrup. Add 1/4 cup of tapioca pearls into a cup that you wish to serve it in, and pour in the drink. Enjoy! Note to fill this whole mason jar, I needed at least roughly 2 times the amount listed per cup serving. Make more black tea (I made a pot full) Enough to fill the other jars.
