Matcha Donuts Recipe

If you're looking for a matcha donut with a subtle matcha flavor, this recipe is for you! I recommend this recipe for anyone who is trying out matcha flavors for the first time, and is worried they'll be hit by the full matcha flavor. You can adjust the amount of matcha for a stronger matcha flavor if you prefer too. I made my donuts a bit on the small side just because I think small donuts are cuter. They're also easier to fry when they're smaller!
Deep fryer: Hamilton Beach

Recipe for Matcha Donuts:

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 2 cups Cake Flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter
  • Vegetable Oil for frying

Matcha Sugar topping
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoons Matcha powder

Sweet Matcha Power
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tablespoons Matcha powder

Matcha Glaze
  • 1 Egg White
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Matcha Powder
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 1 tablespoon water
Directions
  1. Whisk together sugar, baking powder, salt, 2 cups of flour. Make a wee in the center, add in the egg, buttermilk, and melted butter. Using a spatula mix it together. As it comes together knead it on the table until no wet spots remain, do not over knead this.
  2. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick, using flour as needed to prevent sticking, cut out using cookie cutter, one big circle and a small one for a donut shape
  3. Deep fry until golden at 350°
  4. To make the toppings mix everything thing together, for each separate toppings, until no longer lumpy. Sift powdered sugar to ensure it’ll be more smooth.
  5. Dip donuts into toppings while still warm. If they cool completely it won’t stick and you will have to spray pam oil for it to stick
